Our Mission:
The Progressive Riding Program is designed to create good safety conscious horsemen. Every client will be treated as a future
horse owner and as such will be given theory and stable management that will be essential to their success as a confident self-sufficient horse owner, as well as a rider.
Safety and quality are the highest priority and to that aim Progressive Riding Program has a commitment to owning the best possible school horses and top
quality new and used equipment.

Hickory Grove Farm
Hickory Grove Farm was established in 1832 by a German farmer and his family. The house was the first ever built in the United States from pre cut lumber. The lumber was cut in Warrenton, VA and transported to the house site by ox cart along the Old Carolina Rd. The pre cut lumber was then nailed to the frame and was covered with stucco. We don't know if the original house was made with stucco or if that was added later.
The farm actually sits in the area originally called Woolsey, VA. The next closest area was a tiny village of Hickory Grove. The village had a church, a cheese factory and a large farm.
We purchased Hickory Grove Farm in March of 1980 from the heirs of a dairy farmer.
